ASHLYNN HAMRICK NAMED TECH'S FEMALE STUDENT-ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns right side hitter Ashlynn Hamrick (Jackson, Mich.) as this week's Female Student-Athlete of the Week.

Hamrick, who is a redshirt freshman, earns this week's honor after helping the Golden Suns win three games last weekend at Tulsa's Spring Volleyball Tournmanet. At the tournament, Tech went 1-1 against Missouri State, 1-2 against Pittsburg State and 0-2 against Tulsa. At the tournament, Hamrick hit .439 and had 22 kills and only four errors in 41 total attacks and also added five block assists. The Golden Suns will continue its spring season with a tournament on Thursday, April 17 at Harding.

         In her first season with the Golden Suns in 2007, Hamrick played in 124 of Tech's 125 games. On the season, she recorded 329 kills (2.65 kpg) and 56 blocks (0.45 bpg) and hit .237, which was fourth best on the team. She had 20 matches with 10 or more kills, including a career-high 15 kills against both Newman University and Arkansas-Monticello. In Tech's match against Central Baptist, Hamrick hit .824 as she had 14 kills and one errors in 17 attacks. The .824 was the second-highest hitting percentage in a match in school history.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Ashlynn Hamrick: The campus was very nice and clean. The people, not only in athletics, but teachers and coaches, etc., were very personable and made me feel comfortable.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
AH: Meeting new friends and building long lasting relationships.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
AH: I like all kinds of music.

What do you consider your hobby?
AH: Volleyball!!

What sport other than volleyball do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
AH: I like to watch football and basketball, but I would probably like to play basketball.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
AH: My father.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
AH: Getting the second highest hitting percentage record in a match.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
AH: Visit Australia.

What is your major at Tech?
AH: Animal Science.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
AH: Not sure yet, something in veterinary medicine for my job. I either want to live out west or in Colorado.

Do you have a pet?
AH: I have a cat named Boo, and two dogs named, Junior and Trevor.

How many times a day do you find yourself checking Facebook?
AH: About 7 to 10 times a day.

What's been the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
AH: Animal Science, it was interesting and very hands on.

What are your goals for the coming season?
AH: 1.) To be a presence on the court to my players; 2.) to earn a starting position; 3.) to be a player the coaches and teammates want to come to for anything.
