ASHLYNN HAMRICK NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns junior right side hitter Ashlynn Hamrick (Jackson, Mich.) as this week's second Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 school year.

Hamrick earns this week's honor after helping the Golden Suns go 4-0 in this past weekend's Montevallo Classic. During the tournament, Hamrick posted two career highs, in  block assists (4) and digs (4). For the season she is averaging 2.14 kills a set, .274 hitting percentage and started in every game she has played in.

In her three-year career at Tech, Hamrick has played in 74 matches and has compiled a .246 attack percentage. In addition, she has recorded 605 kills, a 2.38 kills per set and added 112 blocks  She help lead the Golden Suns to the 2008 Gulf South Conference West Division title and a third place finish in the West Division in 2007.

Hamrick and the Golden Suns are back in action at the West Florida Invitational this weekend. Tech will open the tournament against Saint Leo at 2 p.m. and then will face Purto Rico-Rio Piedras at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11.
