BRIANNA GREENE NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns senior cross country
runner Brianna Greene (Harrision, Ark.) as this
week's eighth Female
Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.
Greene
earns this week's after finishing in 17th place at last
Friday's 2008 Gulf South Conference Championship Meet in
Hoover, Ala. The 17th place finish earned Greene, one of
the Golden Suns two seniors, Second-Team All-GSC honors.
She ran the 5,000-meter Veteran's Park Course in Hoover
in a time of 20:08.62, which was the second-best time of
the season for Greene. Her 17th-place finish helped Tech
finish third overall at this year's GSC Meet, the team's
highest finish since finishing third at the 2003 GSC
Meet.
In her four-year Tech career,
Greene has had eight Top 25 finishes, including four
this season. In addition, ran a career-best 5K time of
19:31.6 at this season's Missouri Southern Stampede.
Along with earning Second-Team All-GSC honor this
season, Greene has also been a member of the GSC
Academic Honor Roll for the past three years as she
carries a 3.50 cumulative grade point average in
rehabilitation science.
Greene and her Golden Sun teammates return to action on
Saturday, Nov. 8 when they compete at NCAA Division II
South Regional Meet in Searcy, Ark.
The following is a question and answer segment to help
get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:
|
Why did you
ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Brianna Greene: I came to Tech because
I had a scholarship to run cross country and
I enjoyed my visit to the campus.
Outside of athletics, what is your favorite
thing about college life?
BG: Friendships and being active in the
Wesley Foundation on campus.
What is your favorite type of music/group?
BG: I like country and Christian music.
What do you consider your hobby?
BG: I like to memorize scripture and when I
have the time, I like to ride horses and
just be outdoors. I love being active and in
shape.
What sport other than cross country do you like
to watch or would you like to play the most?
BG: I like watching football and enjoy
playing it as well. I also like basketball,
too.
Who is one person that has had the biggest
impact on your life?
BG: There has definitely been more than one,
but I believe this is where you say, "My
mom!"
What
is your most memorable moment as a Tech
athlete?
BG: Making 2nd-Team All-Conference and
running under 20 minutes for the first time
in my life. In addition, I also like the
road trips with the team.
What would you do on your dream vacation?
BG: Relax! Definitely in the middle of no
where with an amazing view of God's
creation. Just be outside, be active. Also,
ride a horse, go for a run, swim, hike, climb,
etc.
What is your major at Tech?
BG: I am rehabilitation science major, with
an emphasis on vocational rehab and social
services.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
BG: I would like to go to graduate school. I
want to work with children with special
needs, possibly therapeutic horseback
riding.
Do you have a pet?
BG: Yes, I have several pets, including a
horse named Cooper, a dog named Ace and a
cat named Milo.
How many times a day do you find yourself
checking Facebook?
BG: I check it a couple times a day.
What's been the most rewarding class you
have had while being at Tech?
BG: There are a few; Rehabilitation of the
Developmentally Disabled, Abnormal
Psychology, Recreation for special
populations and my internship.
What are your goals for this season?
BG: Since I have only one semester left of
school, I just want to have fun and no
regrets. Of course, I want to run my best
times and break records, but most
importantly, I want to use my gift of
running to its fullest and enjoy every
minute of it. |
