BRITTANY GOTTSPONER NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns junior guard Brittany Gottsponer (Morrilton, Ark.) as this week's 15th Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.

Gottsponer, who is the fourth Golden Sun Basketball player to be honored this season, earns this week's honor after helping the Golden Suns posting a 2-1 record so far in the month of February. Tech, who is 17-6 overall and 7-3 in the GSC, opened the month with a 67-46 home win over Southern Arkansas and then posted a 68-45 win last Thursday over Henderson State, before suffering an 80-48 loss this past Saturday at Harding. Over the past three games, Gottsponer is averaging 9.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.3 steals per game and is shooting 44 percent from both the field and the 3-point line. In this stretch, she scored a season-high 16 points in the win over Henderson State and has scored in double figures in four of her last five games.  On the season, Gottsponer is averaging 6.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game and has played in all 23 games, including starting the last 17 contests. She is shooting 49 percent from the field and 77 percent at the free throw line and has reached double digits in scoring in nine games and has had four or more assists in six games, including a season-best six assists against West Alabama. Gottsponer has a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio on the season.

In her career at Tech, Gottsponer has played in 85 games and made 44 starts. She has scored 437 career points (5.1 ppg), has dished out 173 career assists and has collected 114 career steals. She has had 18 career double-digit scoring games and is a career 45 percent shooter from the field and a career 77 percent marksman from the free throw line. She is poised to finish her career with 500 points, 200 assists and 150 steals as she has one more season of eligibility remaining. Along with being a standout on the court, Gottsponer is also a standout in the classroom as she was also a member of the GSC All-Academic Women's Basketball Team last season as she carries a 3.67 cumulative grade point average in pre-med/biology.

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Brittany Gottsponer: Because I knew the basketball program was a winning one and the science department was very good.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
BG: I like all different types of music, just depending on my mood.

What do you consider your hobby?
BG: I like to play basketball and do scrapbooking.

What sport other than basketball do you like to wat
ch or would you like to play the most?
BG: I love softball.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
BG: God!!


What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
BG: Waiting to see our team's name come up on the television screen showing that we had made into the NCAA Tournament and seeing what seed we were.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
BG: I would like to go to the beach and swim with the dolphins.

What is your major at Tech?
BG: I am a biology/pre-med major.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
BG: I would like to attend medical school to be a radiologist.

Do you have a pet? What is its name?
BG: I have a Yorkie named Q.B. (for quarterback).


How many times a day do you find yourself checking Facebook?
BG: None. I don't have Facebook.

What's been the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
BG: I would have to say, Microbiology.

What are your goals for the rest of this season and next season?
BG: I would like to see us win a championship!
