CASEY HAMMONS NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns junior pitcher
Casey Hammons (Carthage, Texas) as this
week's 16th Female
Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.
Hammons,
who is the first Golden Sun Softball player to be
honored this season, earns this week's honor
after helping the Golden Suns open the season with a
28-14 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the GSC,
including winning nine straight GSC games heading into
this weekend's annual GSC Crossover Tournament in
Decatur, Ala. On the season, Hammons, who has been
named the GSC West Division Pitcher of the Week the past
two weeks, has a 12-5 record and an 0.94 earned run
average. Hammons has made 24 appearances and 16 starts
and has thrown 10 complete games, including four
shutouts and had picked up three saves. Earlier this
season against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Feb. 23), Hammons
tossed the third perfect game in school history in
Tech's 10-0 win over the Golden Lions. In 127 innings of
work, Hammons has allowed 91 hits, 32 runs (17 earned
runs), while walking 38 and striking out 129. In Tech's
five wins last week, Hammons went 3-0 with a save and
recorded an 0.30 ERA. In 23 innings of work, Hammons
allowed 18 hits and two runs (one earned run), while
walking 10 and striking out 15.
In her career at Tech, Hammons, who was a First-Team
All-GSC West Division selection last season, has
compiled a 28-18 overall record and an 1.91 ERA. She
holds numerous school records, including being the
school's all-time leader in pitching appearances (76),
strikeouts (298), shutouts (9) and saves (8). In
