DANA FLORIAN NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns senior middle
blocker Dana Florian (Wilmington, Ill.) as this week's
second Female
Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.
Florian,
who was one of three Golden Suns named a Preseason
All-Gulf South Conference West Division selection, earns
this week's honor after helping Tech go 4-0 at last
weekend's Super 8 Spikefest and earning Tournament MVP
honors. At the tournament, Florian recorded 32 kills and
hit .537 in 11 sets played. In addition to the 32 kills
and .537 hitting percentage, Florian had five total
blocks, six service aces and 10 digs. In Tech's
season-opening three-set win over Drury, Florian had 11
kills in 15 attacks and hit .667 and she added 11 kills
and hit .588 in Tech's three-set win over
Alabama-Huntsville.
In her career, Florian, who was a Second-Team All-GSC
West Division selection last season, has recorded 1,043
kills and 406 total blocks, which is the seventh-most in
school history and the third-most in the school's NCAA
Division II history. In addition, she has had 199 career
digs and has added 53 service aces.
Florian and her teammates return to action on Friday,
Sept. 5 when they compete at the Southwest Baptist
Bearcat Invitational in Bolivar, Mo. Tech will open the
tournament against Missouri S&T at 11 a.m. and then will
face Southwest Baptist at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 6,
Tech will face Rockhurst at 10 a.m. and then conclude
the tournament against Wayne State at 3 p.m.

Why did you
ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Dana Florian: I really liked the team,
the coaching staff, campus and the warm
weather.
Outside of athletics, what is your favorite
thing about college life?
DF: I love being able to hang out with my
friends and meet new people.
What is your favorite type of music/group?
DF: I like all kinds of music!! Rap, R & B,
country, rock and oldies.
What do you consider your hobby?
DF: I like to go boating, shopping and to
the movies.
What sport other than volleyball do you like
to watch or would you like to play the most?
DF: I like to watch football and baseball. I
would like to cheer again competitively.
Who is one person that has had the biggest
impact on your life?
DF: My mom. She is the strongest person I
know and has made me who I am today.
What
is your most memorable moment as a Tech
athlete?
DF: Being named an All-Conference selection
last season.
What would you do on your dream vacation?
DF: I would like to be on a beach in
Australia.
What is your major at Tech?
DF: I'm a management and marketing major.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
DF: I would like to get a graduate assistant
coaching position in volleyball at a school
in Florida.
Do you have a pet?
DF: Yes, a cat and a dog. My cat is named
Cinderfella and my dog is named Wiggles.
How many times a day do you find yourself
checking Facebook?
DF: I check it every chance I get.
What's been the most rewarding class you
have had while being at Tech?
DF: I liked Business Professional Speaking.
It really helped me become more comfortable
talking in front of a crowd.
What are your goals for this season?
DF: My goals are to be named an
All-Conference selection and win the NCAA
Division II National Volleyball
