DANNY MARTIN NAMED TECH MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named sophomore linebacker Danny Martin (Tulsa, Okla.) as this week's third male student-athlete of the week.

Martin, who is a member of the Wonder Boys Football team, earns this week's honor after recording five total tackles, including four solo stops in the Wonder Boys 26-24 home win last Thursday over West Alabama to open Gulf South Conference play. In addition to the five tackles, Martin also had 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, forced a fumble and had a fumble recovery.

On the season, Martin is tied for third on the team with 13 total tackles, including 10 solo stops and has had 2.5 quarterback sacks, 1.5 tackles for loss, has broken up a pass, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. As a freshman last year, Martin played in all 10 games for the Wonder Boys and recorded 29 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, forced two fumbles, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick.

Martin and his Wonder Boy teammates will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 27, when they travel to Monticello, Ark., to face Arkansas-Monticello. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Convoy-Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium.

The following is a question and answer segment to help get to know this successful Tech student-athlete:

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Danny Martin: When I came down for my recruiting visit everything felt right. It felt like home here at Arkansas Tech.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
DM: I like to sit on the porch with my friends.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
DM: My top three favorites are 1.) Chris Knight, 2.) Waylon Jennings and 3.) My brother, Jake Martin.

What do you consider your hobby?
DM: I like to float along creeks, fish in rivers and hunt ducks.

What sport other than football do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
DM: I like baseball.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
DM: My parents.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
DM: When we beat Henderson State, 21-20, last season.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
DM: I would like to take a road trip through Texas and stop for concerts. Some guaranteed stops on the trip would be Gruene Hall, Luckenbach and Billy Bob's.

What is your major at Tech?
DM: I am a mechanical engineering major.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
DM: I'm not sure. I might possibly move to Luckenbach, Texas, to live with my brother.

Do you have a pet?
DM: I have a yellow and a black lab. There names are Lucy
and Ellie May.

How many times a day do you find yourself checking facebook?
DM: I check it once a day.

What's the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
DM: I liked my Methods of Engineering class with Dr. Helmer.

What are your goals for this season?
DM: I would like to win a GSC Championship both this season and next season.
