DEXTER HENDRIX NAMED TECH MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named junior guard Dexter Hendrix (Benton, Ark.) as this week's Male Student-Athlete of the Week.

Hendrix, who is a member of the Wonder Boys Basketball team, earns this week's honor after helping the Wonder Boys post two non-conference wins and improve its season record to 7-2 overall and also the Wonder Boys earned 11 votes in this week's NABC/Division II Coaches' Top 25 Poll. For the week, Hendrix averaged 12 points per game and shot 64 percent from the field and 60 percent (6-for-10) from the 3-point line. In Tech's 128-65 win over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist last Thursday, Hendrix scored a career-high 19 points as he shot 7-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from the 3-point line in 18 minutes of action. On the season, Hendrix is averaging 4.8 points per game and is shooting 54 percent from the field and 48 percent from long distance.  

In his two-plus years as a Wonder Boy, Hendrix, who was a member for the GSC Academic Honor Roll last season, has played in 43 games and has scored 80 points and is a career 39 percent field goal shooter and a career 33 percent shooter from the 3-point line. In addition, he has dished out 22 career assists and picked up 14 career steals.

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Dexter Hendrix: I came to Tech because of basketball.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
DH: I would have to say hanging out with my friends.

What is your favorite type of music/group?
DH: I like hip-hop mostly.

What do you consider your hobby?
DH: Basketball is my hobby.

What sport other than basketball do you like to watch or would you like to play the most?
DH: I like to watch football.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
DH: My dad has had the biggest impact on my life.

What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
DH: Winning a game in GSC Tournament last season.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
DH: I would spend a lot of money.

What is your major at Tech?
DH: I am a health/physical education major.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
DH: I would like to coach basketball.

Do you have a pet?
DH: No pets.

How many times a day do you find yourself checking facebook?
DH: None. I don't have a facebook account.

What's been the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
DH: I think all the classes and everything I've taken has been rewarding.

What are your goals for this season?
DH: I would like to win a GSC title and advance deep into the NCAA D-II Tournament.
