KACIE VISINA NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns senior leftfielder Kacie Visina (Rowlett, Texas) as this week's 17th Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.

Visina, who is the second Golden Sun Softball player to be honored this season, earns this week's honor after helping the Golden Suns complete its 2009 season with a second straight runner-up finish at the GSC Tournament and also win its second consecutive GSC West Division title. At this year's GSC Tournament, Visina hit .286 with two hits in 7 at-bats and led the team with three runs scored in helping the Golden Suns finish with a 2-1 record. In addition, she walked once and stole one base at the tournament. On the season, Visina, who played in and started 61 of Tech's 63 games in left field, posted a .250 batting average as she had 33 hits in 132 at-bats and was fifth on the team in runs scored with 23 and was also 10-for-12 in stolen bases. She had one doubles, one triple, drove in 12 runs and had seven multi-hit games and was hit by a pitch a single-season school record four times.

In her two-year career at Tech, Visina, who is a transfer from North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas, played in 94 games and started 63 of those games. She compiled a career batting average of .243 as she had 34 hits in 140 at-bats and scored 34 runs in that time. In addition, she finished her career 12-for-15 in stolen bases, which is 12th on the school's career chart and is tied for sixth in career hit by pitches with four.

Why did you ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Kacie Visina: I got a scholarship, plus I really liked the campus and they had my degree program.

Outside of athletics, what is your favorite thing about college life?
KV: I like hanging out with friends.


What is your favorite type of music/group?
KV: I like just about everything.

What do you consider you hobby?
KV: I like softball, movies and shopping.


What sport other than softball do you like to wat
ch or would you like to play the most?
KV:
I like to watch football, basketball and baseball. I also like playing volleyball.

Who is one person that has had the biggest impact on your life?
KV: My sister, Katrina.


What is your most memorable moment as a Tech athlete?
KV: Winning back-to-back GSC West Division titles.

What would you do on your dream vacation?
KV: I would like to visit Hawai'i or Australia. I would also like to go to Chicago and shop during the winter.


What is your major at Tech?
KV: I am a nursing major.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
KV: I would like to get a job back home in Texas and maybe go back to school and get my masters degree.

Do you have a pet? What is its name?
KV: Yes, a lab puppy named Charlie.


How many times a day do you find yourself checking Facebook?
KV: I check about once a day.

What's the most rewarding class you have had while being at Tech?
KV: Getting an A in college algebra.
