MELISSA POLLREIS NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns junior cross country
runner Melissa Pollreis (Gravette, Ark.) as this week's
third Female
Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.
Pollreis earns this week's honor after being the
top finisher for the Golden Suns Cross Country team at
last weekend's Brooks/Memphis Twilight Invitational. In
Memphis last weekend, Pollreis ran a time of 20:17.68
over the 5,000-meter course to finish 55th overall at
the meet that featured 36 teams and almost 300 runners.
Pollreis' performance helped the Golden Suns, who are
ranked fourth in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA D-II South
Region Poll, finished 13th overall and third among
non-NCAA Division I teams at the meet.
It was the second time this season that Pollreis was the
top finisher for the Golden Suns as she finished fourth
overall at Tech's second-annual Twilight Run on Aug. 29.
At the Tech meet, Pollreis ran the 2-mile course in a
time of 12:15.
Pollreis and her Golden Sun teammates return to action
on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they compete at the Missouri
Southern Stampede in Joplin, Mo.
