SARAH VON LIENEN NAMED TECH'S FEMALE ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns sophomore middle
blocker Sarah Von Lienen (Lakeland, Tenn.) as this week's
seventh Female
Student-Athlete of the Week for the 2008-09 school year.
Von Lienen,
who is the sixth Golden Sun volleyball player honored
this season, earns this week's honor after helping Tech
go 6-0 last week, including collecting three victories
in last weekend's Tech Invitational. For the week,
Von Lienen had 53 kills (2.53 kps), 13 blocks (0.62 bps)
and hit .416 in 21 sets and six matches. Had 13 kills
and hit .600 in Tech's three-set win over Ouachita
Baptist and added seven kills, six blocks and hit .333
in Tech's four-set win over West Alabama. On the season,
Von Lienen, who was won three GSC West Division
Defensive Player of the Week honors three times this
season, has recorded 231 kills (2.51 kps) and is hitting
a team-best .350. In addition, she has had 99 blocks
(1.08 bps), including a team-best 31 solo blocks.
For her career, Von Lienen, who was named the 2007 GSC
West Division Freshman of the Year, has recorded 552
kills, 255 blocks and has a .299 hitting percentage. As
a freshman in 2007, Von Lienen recorded 156 total
blocks, which is the seven-best total in the school's
single-season history. The 255 career blocks are the
fifth-most in Tech's Division II history.

Why did you
ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Sarah Von Lienen:
I came to Tech to play volleyball, but I
also really liked the school's art program.
Outside of athletics, what is your favorite
thing about college life?
SVL: I like to hang out with my friends and
I enjoy meeting new people everyday.
What is your favorite type of music/group?
SVL: I don't have have a favorite type of
music. I like almost everything.
What do you consider your hobby?
SVL: My hobby would probably be painting.
What sport other than volleyball do you like
to watch or would you like to play the most?
SVL: I like to watch football, because I
actually understand it now. It is so much
fun!!
Who is one person that has had the biggest
impact on your life?
SVL: My mom. She had been there for me no
matter what.
What
is your most memorable moment as a Tech
athlete?
SVL: Getting named GSC West Division
Freshman of the Year last season.
What would you do on your dream vacation?
SVL: I would go to a beach and do nothing
but lay on the beach.
What is your major at Tech?
SVL: I'm an art education major.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
SVL: I would like to go to graduate school
and get a degree in Art Therapy.
Do you have a pet?
SVL: I have a cat named, Olive.
How many times a day do you find yourself
checking Facebook?
SVL: I probably check it around 6 to 7 times
a day.
What's been the most rewarding class you
have had while being at Tech?
SVL: My most rewarding class would have to
be Art History. I liked that class because I
loved my professor.
What are your goals for this season?
SVL: I want to make All-GSC and I want to
win a conference championship and hopefully
advance to the NCAA Tournament. |
