SHANNON DIXON NAMED TECH MALE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has named senior offensive tackle Shannon Dixon (Tiller, Ark.) as this week's eighth male student-athlete of the week.

Dixon, who is a member of the Wonder Boys Football team, earns this week's honor after helped the Wonder Boys offense gain a season-high 600 yards and score a season-best 49 points in last weekend's 49-24 victory at West Georgia. In addition, Dixon and his offensive line mates did not allow a sack and helped Tech's offense amass 310 yards rushing against the Wolves defense. So far this season, Dixon has been part of an offensive line that has allowed just four sacks in seven games, which ranks second nationally in all of Division II football.

In his four-year career as a Wonder Boy, Dixon, who is a starter at left tackle, has played in 30 games and made 18 starts, including starting five of Tech's seven games this season. In addition, he has helped Tech post a 23-14 record of the past three-plus seasons, including posting back-to-back 7-3 seasons in 2005 and 2006.

Dixon, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 325 pounds, will be one of 13 seniors that will be honored prior to Tech's home game with Henderson State on Oct. 25 as part of Senior Day activities on the Tech campus.
