TIM CHILDRESS NAMED TECH MALE
ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech has
named junior running back Tim Childress (Batesville,
Ark.)
as this week's ninth male student-athlete of the week.
Childress,
who is a member of the Wonder Boys Football team, earns
this week's honor after rushing for a career-high 145
yards on 13 carries in the Wonder Boys 29-21 loss last
Saturday at home to Henderson State. In addition to
rushing for 145 yards, Childress also caught two passes
for 16 yards and rushed for a 49-yard touchdown in the
fourth quarter to give Tech a 21-17 lead. The 49-yard
touchdown run was the longest rushing play of the season
for the Wonder Boys. On the season, Childress leads the
Wonder Boys with 457 yards rushing on 88 carries and he
is averaging 5.2 yards per carry and 57.1 yards rushing
per game through eight games. Over the last two games,
Childress, who has started five games this season and 12
in his career, has carried the ball 32 times for 238
yards for 7.4 yards per game.
In his three years so far as a Wonder Boy, Childress,
the former Batesville Pioneer, has carried the ball 251
times for 978 yards and is 22 yards shy of rushing for
1,000 career yards. In addition, he has gained 1,215
all-purpose yards, has caught 29 career passes for 217
yards and has scored three career touchdowns.
Childress and his teammates return to action to on
Saturday, Nov. 1, when they travel to Cleveland, Miss.,
to face No. 4/No. 5 Delta State in a 3 p.m. Gulf South
Conference match-up.

Why did you
ultimately choose to come to Tech?
Tim Childress: The reason I chose Tech
was because all of my friends I played ball
with and against in high school had signed
here, or were already here. It was just like
playing at Pioneer Stadium in Batesville.
Outside of athletics, what is your favorite
thing about college life?
TC: I love to learn. I also love listening
and learning.
What is your favorite type of music/group?
TC: My favorite type of music is gospel.
What do you consider your hobby?
TC: Playing music in church.
What sport other than football do you like
to watch or would you like to play the most?
TC: Basketball is one of the sports I like
to watch and play other than football.
Who is one person that has had the biggest
impact on your life?
TC: My father has been the biggest impact in
my life. He encourages me everyday and he
tells me all the time that I only go this
way one time.
What is your most memorable moment as a Tech
athlete?
TC: My most memorable moment was when I
rushed for 145 yards last week against
Henderson State.
What would you do on your dream vacation?
TC: I would like to go to Africa. It has
always been on my mind.
What is your major at Tech?
TC: I'm a physical education major.
What do you plan to do after graduation?
TC: I plan on going to graduate school.
Do you have a pet?
TC: No pets, but I would like to have a pet.
I would like a bulldog named Spike.
How many times a day do you find yourself
checking facebook?
TC: I check it very, very seldom.
What's been the most rewarding class you
have had while being at Tech?
TC: Foundational Computers. I made an A in
the class.
What are your goals for this season?
TC: I would like to finish this season with
two wins and come back next season and
finish with a 16-0 winning streak. |
