TIPHANI MOON NAMED TECH'S FEMALE
STUDENT-ATHLETE
OF THE WEEK
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech has named Golden Suns first baseman
Tiphani Moon (Euless, Texas) as this week's Female
Student-Athlete of the Week.
Moon,
who is a freshman, earns this week's honor after helping
the Golden Suns to a runner-up finish at the 2008 Gulf
South Conference Tournament in Southaven, Miss. At the
tournament, which was Tech's first-ever appearance in
the postseason event, Moon hit .438 with seven hits in
16 at-bats and scored three runs, along with hitting two
doubles and two home runs. In addition, she had 5 RBIs,
including 2 RBIs on Sunday against North Alabama to help
Tech advance to the championship round of the
tournament. For her efforts at the tournament, Moon was
one of three Golden Suns named to the All-Tournament
Team. The other Golden Suns named to the All-Tournament
team were senior pitcher Dana Aldrich and senior
shortstop Molly Schweigert.
On the season, Moon, who
was one of six Golden Suns named First-Team All-GSC West
Division selection, finished with a .324 batting average
and had 57 hits and scored 29 runs, which was
second-most on the team. In addition, Moon set new
single-season school records in doubles (16) and RBIs
(42) and added seven home runs, which is tied for third
on the school's single-season charts. Moon also finished
the season with a .545 slugging percentage, which was
fourth on the single-season charts and played in a
single-season school record 58 games.
