GOLDEN SUNS BASKETBALL ADOPTS ONE-MILE SECTION OF
INTERSTATE 40 AS PART OF ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY PROGRAM
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas
–
Arkansas Tech Women’s Basketball Head Coach Dave
Wilbers and his Golden Suns team recently adopted a
one-mile section of Interstate 40 here in Russellville
as part of the Arkansas Highway Department’s
Adopt-A-Highway Litter Control Program.
Anyone traveling along Interstate 40 heading east
towards Little Rock will notice a sign
near mile marker 84 that says that section as been
adopted by the Arkansas Tech Women’s Basketball team.
“Getting involved in our community is very important to
our players and to my coaching
staff,” Wilbers said. “I thought it would be unique for
us to adopt a one-mile section of the highway as part of
Arkansas Litter Control Program.”
In
addition to adopting a one-mile section on Interstate
40, the Golden Suns have already
participated in several other community service
projects, including conducting an clinic at
Russellville’s Center Valley Elementary School and
participating in the Fall Festival at Sequoyah
Elementary School, along with being involved in Tech’s
Halloween Hoopla at the River Valley Boys and Girls
Club, a Canned Food Drive for the Main Street Mission,
National Girls and Women in Sports Day Clinic, the
Atkins Tornado Relief Drive and a “Think Pink” Night for
Breast Cancer Awareness.
“In
the future, we would like to get involved in more
community service projects,” the first-year Tech coach
said.
Wilbers led the Golden Suns to a 26-6 overall record
this past season. Tech, who finished as runners-up for
the second consecutive season at the GSC Tournament,
advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II South
Regional in Cleveland, Miss. Tech ended the season with
a No. 17 national ranking in the final USA Today/ESPN
WBCA D-II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll.
