GOLDEN SUNS FALL TO SIXTH IN LATEST USTFCCCA
NCAA D-II
SOUTH REGIONAL RANKINGS
RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas –
Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country fell to sixth in
this week’s latest NCAA Division II South Regional
rankings that are compiled by the United States Track &
Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Tech was ranked fourth in the Preseason Division II
South Regional rankings, before moving up one spot to
No. 3 in the initial weekly poll five weeks ago and has
finally dropped out of third after being there for five
straight weeks following its third-place finish at last
Saturday’s 2009 Gulf South Conference Championship Meet.
The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll will be
released every week during the regular season beginning
on Sept. 15. The poll ranks the Top 10 men’s and women’s
cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions.
Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in
their own region with input from the coaches.
The Golden Suns scored 109 points to finish behind both
four-time GSC champion Harding and West Florida. It was
Tech’s second consecutive second place finish in the GSC
Championship as they finished third at last year’s GSC
Meet.
Tampa, the two-time defending South Region champion,
remains atop this week’s poll and the Spartans are
followed by Harding at No. 2. Following Harding in the
poll is West Florida at No. 3, Florida Southern at No. 4
and Florida Tech rounds out the Top 5 at No. 5.
The next five in the poll begins with Tech at No. 6,
while West Georgia stays at No. 7. Nova Southeastern
climbs to No.8, West Alabama falls to No. 9 and
Alabama-Huntsville is rounds out the Top 10 at No. 10
this week.
Tech will next be in action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when
they travel to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the 2009 NCAA
Division II South Regional Meet.
