GOLDEN SUNS REMAIN FOURTH IN LATEST USTFCCCA DIVISION II SOUTH REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY POLL

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Women’s Cross Country remains fourth in this week’s fifth NCAA Division II South Regional rankings that are compiled by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Tech opened the 2008 season ranked fourth in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division II South Regional Preseason Poll and then has been ranked fourth in the previous four regular season polls.

The USTFCCCA NCAA Division II region poll is released every week during the regular season beginning on Sept. 9. The poll ranks the Top 10 men’s and women’s cross country teams in each of the eight NCAA regions. Eight regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region with input from the coaches.

Tech remains fourth after not competing last weekend. On the season, Tech took home the team title at the UALR Invitational on Sept. 27 and has also finished fourth at its own Twilight Run on Aug. 29 and finished 13th at the Brooks/Memphis Twilight Classic on Sept. 13.

Tampa, who is the defending South Regional champion, remains first in this week’s poll and is followed by Harding at No. 2 and Alabama-Huntsville at No. 3. Following Tech in the poll is Albany State at No. 5, North Alabama remains sixth and West Florida moves up one spot to No. 7. West Georgia falls one spot to No. 8 and is followed by Nova Southeastern at No. 9 and Florida Southern remains 10th this week.

The Golden Suns will return to action this Saturday, Oct. 11, when they compete at the NCAA Pre-Regional/Bison Stampede in Searcy, Ark. The meet will begin at 9 a.m. on the Harding University campus.
