TWO WONDER BOYS NAMED SECOND-TEAM DAKTRONICS
ALL-SUPER TWO REGIONAL SELECTIONS

        RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys Football team had two of its players named to the Daktronics Division II All-Super Region II Football team released on Tuesday.

The Daktronics All-Region teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in each of the four regions of the country. First-Team honorees move on to the Daktronics National All-America ballot.

Senior offensive tackle Jeremy Ashcraft (Marshall, Texas) and junior center Torrence Wright (Sulphur Springs, Texas) were named Second-Team selections this season. Ashcraft is a repeat second-team selection from last season.

The 2008 Daktronics All-Super Regional II team features 26 players from Gulf South Conference schools, including 16 first team honorees. NCAA Division II National semifinalist North Alabama led the way with nine selections, including six first-team selections. NCAA D-II Playoff teams Tusculum and Delta State had seven and five selections respectively.

Ashcraft, who was named a First-Team All-GSC selection this season and also participated in last Saturday’s East Coast All-Star Bowl Game, repeats as a Second-Team Daktronics All-Super Region 2 selection after finishing with an average grade of 81 percent in 10 games. In addition, Ashcraft led Tech with 78 knockdown blocks and had 13 pancake blocks and helped Tech’s offensive line just allow eight sacks in 10 games.

Wright, who was named a First-Team All-GSC selection this past season and is also a candidate from the Super Two Regional for the Gene Upshaw Award, earns second teams honors this season after playing in and starting all 10 games for the Wonder Boys at center. On the season, Wright had an average grade of 85 and recorded 53 knockdown blocks and had 10 pancakes. In addition, he helped anchor a Tech offensive line that allowed just eight sacks in 10 games, which was tied for third in all of NCAA D-II Football.

The GSC players selected Second-Team All-Super Two Region selections besides Ashcraft and Wright were North Alabama tight end Brandon Alldredge, Harding receiver Kurt Adams, Delta State offensive lineman Pete Vaseau, North Alabama quarterback A.J. Milwee, Delta State running back Trevar Deed, Henderson State defensive lineman Michael Castillo, Harding linebacker Sevohn Greer and North Alabama safety Bobby Brooks.

          GSC players receiving First-Team All-Super Two Region selections were Henderson State receiver Garett Manning, Ouachita Baptist receiver Julius Pruitt, Harding offensive lineman Ross Conn, Delta State offensive lineman Mark Ellis, North Alabama offensive lineman Sam Hathorn, Henderson State return specialist Greg Godfrey, North Alabama kicker Tom Schneider, North Alabama defensive lineman Derrick Chatman, Delta State linebacker Lardester Hicks-Green, North Alabama linebacker Michael Johnson, West Alabama linebacker Garry Pack, Henderson State cornerback Devon Hughes, North Alabama cornerback David Raymond, Valdosta State safety Sherard Reynolds, Delta State safety Dominic Spinks and North Alabama punter Will Batson.
