TECH TO HOST WATCH PARTY SUNDAY FOR ANNOUNCEMENT
OF SELECTIONS FOR 2009 NCAA DIVISION II FOOTBALL

Arkansas Tech University Athletic Department announced
on Saturday that the school will host a watch party on
Sunday afternoon for the announcement of the 24-team
field for the 2009 NCAA Division II Football Playoffs.
The
NCAA D-II Football Playoff selections will be announced
on ESPN News beginning at 2 p.m. CST. The show
will announce six teams from each of the NCAA’s four
Super Regionals that have qualified for the 2009 NCAA
D-II Playoffs.
Tech, who is ranked sixth in the latest NCAA Division II
Super Regional Two Poll that was released this past
Monday, picked up a 52-31 win Saturday at Harding and
should be lock to earn its third playoff berth in the
last 10 years and first since 2004.
“We
want to encourage everyone to come on out and watch the
NCAA Division II selection show on ESPN News with our
players, our coaching staff and members of the Tech
family,” Tech Athletic Director and Head Football Coach
Steve Mullins said. “This is an exciting time for
our school, our players and our fans.”
The
watch party will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will be held at
Young Ballroom, which is across from the Tech Bookstore
on the Tech campus.
The
Wonder Boys are sporting an 8-2 overall record and
finished with a 6-2 mark in the GSC following its win
over Harding on Saturday afternoon in Searcy, Ark. Tech
enters the postseason having won five straight games
since falling 42-17 at current top-ranked and undefeated
North Alabama on Oct. 3. UNA is expected to be the No. 1
seed in the Super Two Super Regional when the playoff
bracket is announced on Sunday.
This year’s NCAA D-II Football Playoffs will begin next
weekend with games at eight campus sites around the
country. The top two teams in each Super Regional earn a
first round bye. The 2009 NCAA D-II National
Championship game is slated for Saturday, Dec. 12 at
Braly Municipal Stadium in Florence, Ala. Last season,
Minnesota-Duluth took home its first-ever national title
after picking up a 21-14 win over Northwest Missouri
State.
