WONDER BOYS JUMP TWO SPOTS TO SIXTH IN LATEST
NCAA D-II SUPER REGIONAL TWO POLL

Thanks to its 35-23 win last Saturday at home over Delta
State and losses by Mars Hill and Morehouse, Arkansas
Tech Football continued to move closer to a berth in the
NCAA Division II Playoffs on Monday as the Wonder Boys
moved up two spots to sixth in this week’s fifth
installment of the NCAA Division II Super Regional Two
poll.
The Super Regional rankings, which will be released
weekly leading up to the end of the regular season, are
used to determine the six teams that advance into the
NCAA Division II playoffs out of the NCAA’s four super
regions.
Tech, who is 7-2 overall and a 5-2 in the Gulf South
Conference following its win over Delta State, is one of
two GSC schools ranked in this week’s fifth Super
Regional Two Poll. Tech’s region includes teams from the
GSC, the SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference) and the SAC (South Atlantic Conference).
One of Tech’s losses is to a team ranked in this week’s
Super Regional Two poll as North Alabama (9-0 overall,
9-0 D-II) is once again ranked No. 1.
North Alabama sits atop the Super Regional Two poll for
the fifth consecutive week. Carson-Newman (8-2 overall,
7-2 D-II) out of the SAC remains second this week, while
Albany State (8-1 overall, 8-1 D-II) out of the SIAC
remains third and UNC-Pembroke (8-1 overall, 6-1 D-II),
an NCAA Division II independent, remains in the fourth
spot after its 52-7 win Saturday at Frostburg [MD]
State. Mars Hill (6-3 overall, 6-2 D-II) remains fifth
despite its 38-28 loss to Tusculum last weekend.
Following Tech in this week’s poll is Morehouse (6-3,
6-3 D-II), out of the SIAC, is at No. 7 and Benedict
(7-3 overall, 6-3 D-II), out of the SIAC, falls to
eighth after falling last weekend 30-12 to Albany State.
Wingate (6-3 overall, 6-3 D-II), out of the SAC, remains
ninth and Fort Valley State (6-4 overall, 5-3 D-II), out
of the SIAC, remains 10th following its 20-13 win over
Kentucky State this past weekend.
Tech returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 7, when the
Wonder Boys close out the 2009 regular season with a GSC
contest at Harding (5-5 overall, 3-4 GSC). Kickoff for
Saturday’s regular season finale is set for 2 p.m. at
First Security Stadium in Searcy, Ark.
