STATE
RUSSELLVILLE,
Arkansas –
The
Arkansas Tech football coaching staff has selected its
Most Valuable Players from Thursday’s 22-3 season
opening win over Northeastern State.
The Offensive MVP honor went to senior receiver
Tracey Stiger (Russellville, Ark.). Stiger earns the
Offensive MVP honor after grading out at 81 percent in
the win against Northeastern State. Against the
RiverHawks, Stiger caught nine passes for 92 yards,
including gaining 78 of those yards after the catch,
according to Tech Head Coach Steve Mullins.
On defense, the coaches awarded sophomore defensive back
Tario Dansby (Ashdown, Ark.) as its MVP. In the
win over the RiverHawks, Dansby recorded 10 total
tackles, including seven unassisted stops. In addition,
he had three tackles for loss, forced a fumble and
picked off a pass that was returned for 16 yards.
The coaches awarded co-MVP honors on special teams to
senior punters Nick McCaskill (Camden, Ark.) and
Michael Podobnik (Frankfort, Ill.). McCaskill
punted one time for 37 yards, but his punt pinned NSU
inside the 5-yard line, which led to Tech’s first points
of the game on a safety. Meanwhile, Podobnik, a
Preseason unanimous All-American, booted his lone punt
of the game 54 yards.
Tech will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 4, when
the travel to Warrensburg, Mo., to face Central Missouri
