WONDER BOYS FINISH FOURTH AT DRURY FALL INVITATIONAL

        SPRINGFIELD, Missouri Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf continued its 2008 season here Tuesday with a fourth-place finish at the Pasta House/Drury Invitational held at the Rivercut Golf Course.

Tech finished the two-day, 36-hole tournament by shooting a 594 to finish in fourth place out of 12 teams. Tech was one shot behind third place Missouri Southern (593) and one shot in front of fifth place Northern Kentucky (595). Tech opened the tournament by shooting a 300 in Monday’s first round and then shot a 294 in Tuesday’s final round.

Missouri Western carded a 587 to take home the team title, while Truman State shot a 589 to finish in second place.

Leading the way for Tech was senior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.). Carlyle carded a two-under par 142 for 36 holes to finish in third place. Through five rounds this season, Carlyle has carded four rounds of 71 and a round of 76. In Monday’s first round, he shot a 71 and then had a 71 in the final round.

Northern Kentucky’s Jeremy Martin shot a five-under par 139 to take home individual medalist honors. Martin shot rounds of 70 and 69 for the tournament. Truman State’s Chris Kovach shot a four-under par 140 (68, 72) to finish in second place.

In addition to Carlyle, juniors Drew Richards (Prescott, Ark.) and Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) each shot 36-hole totals of 151 to finish tied for 24th place. Richards shot a 75 in the first round and then carded a 76 in the final round, while Spikes shot a 78 in the first round and a 73 in the final round. Senior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) carded a 152 to finish tied for 29th place after shooting rounds of 78 and 74, while senior Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.) shot a two-day total of 157 to finish in a tie for 49th place. Wallner carded rounds of 76 and 81 at the tournament.

The Wonder Boys will continue it fall schedule on Oct. 3-4 when they travel to Cleveland, Miss., to compete at the Derrall Foreman Invitational hosted by Delta State University. The tournament will be held at the Cleveland Country Club.
