WONDER BOYS LOSE ONE-HOLE PLAYOFF TO NORTH ALABAMA, FINISH SECOND AT DELTA STATE'S DERRALL FOREMAN INVITATIONAL

        CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf used a 14-under par 274 in Saturday’s final round to force a playoff with North Alabama here at the 2008 Delta State/Derrall Foreman Invitational held at the Cleveland Country Club.

Tech and UNA each finished the two-day, 36-hole event with a score of 559, but the Lions took home the team title as they won in a playoff. Delta State’s White team finished third after shooting a 573 for 36 holes. Tech opened the tournament by shooting a 285 before firing the 274, while UNA shot a 276 in the first round and carded 283 in the final round.

 Leading the way for Tech was junior Drew Richards (Prescott, Ark.), who shot a nine-under par 135 to finish tied with UNA’s Brett Munson. Munson took individual medalist honors when he made a birdie on the par 4 first hole to defeat Richards in a playoff. Richards finished the tournament shooting a 71 in the first round and carded an eight-under par 64 in Saturday’s final round.

In addition to Richards, senior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.) shot an eight-under par 136 to finish tied for third place with Henderson State’s Ben Cuzen. Carlyle had rounds of 69 and 67. Junior Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) shot a 36 hole total of 144 (73, 71) to finish tied for 14th place, while senior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) carded a one-over par 145 (73, 72) to finish tied for 16th place. Senior Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.), who was golfing as an individual, shot a two day total of 146 (77, 69) to finish tied for 19th place and junior Ryan Hitt (Allen, Texas) shot a four-over par 148 (72, 76) to finish in 27th place.

Tech will continue its fall schedule on Oct. 12-14 at the Territory Classic hosted by Cameron University in Duncan, Okla.
