WONDER BOYS GOLF SHOOTS EVEN-PAR 576 TO FINISH IN THIRD
PLACE AT DERRALL FOREMAN INVITATIONAL; 'B' TEAM SHOOTS
619 TO FINISH IN 12TH PLACE OVERALL
CLEVELAND, Mississippi –
Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf concluded play here Saturday by
firing an even-par 576 to finish in third place out of
13 teams in the Derrall Foreman Invitational hosted by
Delta State University at the Cleveland Country Club.
Tech opened the tournament by firing a 293 in Friday’s
first round, before rebounding to card a five-under par
283 in Saturday’s final round. In addition, Tech’s ‘B’
Team shot 619 for the tournament to finish in 12th
place.
The Wonder Boys finished four shots behind second place
Delta State (572) and three shots in front of fourth
place Lindenwood University. North Alabama shot a 571 to
take home the team title by one shot over the Statesmen.
Leading the way for Tech was senior Ryan Hitt
(Allen, Texas) and freshman Parker Hale (Benton,
Ark.) each carded one-over par 145s to finish tied for
12th place. Hitt fired rounds of 71 and 74, while Hale
shot a 77 in the first round and then fired a 68 in the
final round. The ‘B’ Team was led by the play of
redshirt freshman Graham Rucker (Hot Springs,
Ark.), who cared a two-under par 142 to finish in a tie
for fifth place.
North Alabama’s Brett Munson took home individual
medalist honors for the second straight season as he
carded a 10-under par 134 to finish four shots in front
Lindenwood’s Richard Docherty and Henderson State’s Matt
Atkins, who each shot six-under par 138s.
Munson, Docherty, Atkins were joined on the Foreman
Invitational Team by Rucker, Delta State’s Collin
McCrary and North Alabama ‘B’ Team’s Tyler Chandler.
McCrary shot a four-under par 140 and Chandler fired a
two-under par 142.
In addition to Hitt and Hale, other finishers for the
Wonder Boys were senior Drew Richards (Prescott,
Ark.) and freshman Colton Dillard (Farmington,
Ark.). Richards and Dillard each carded two-over par
146s to finish tied for 21st place. Richards had rounds
of 70 and 76, while Dillard carded rounds of 77 and 69.
The fifth finisher for Tech was senior Jonathon
Spikes (Danville, Ark.), who fired a three-over par
147 to finish tied for 25th place. Spikes shot a 75 in
the first round and then shot an even-par 72 in the
final round.
Other finishers for the ‘B’ Team besides Rucker was
senior Scott Genoway (Calgary, Alberta), who shot
a 152 to finish tied for 37th place. Genoway had rounds
of 73 and 79 respectively. In addition, freshman Kyle
Barton (Greenwood, Ark.) finished in a tie for 56th
place after firing a 158 (80, 78), while freshman
Matt Johnson (Siloam Springs, Ark.) carded a 168 for
36 holes to finish in a tie for 66th place. Redshirt
freshman Sean Craigon (Maple Ridge, B.C.) shot a
78 in the second round after being disqualified in the
first round.
Tech will return to action on Oct. 12-13 when the Wonder
Boys compete at the North Alabama Fall Classic, which is
being held at the Blackberry Golf Club in Florence, Ala.
