WONDER BOYS OPEN FALL SEASON WITH FIFTH-PLACE FINISH AT 10TH-ANNUAL NORTHEASTERN STATE GOLF CLASSIC

        BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – Arkansas Tech Men’s Golf opened its 2008 fall campaign with a fifth-place finish here at the 10th-Annual Northeastern State Golf Classic held at Emerald Falls Golf Club.

Tech finished the two-day, 54-hole event by shooting an 891 to finish in fifth place out of 15 teams. Tech was one shot behind fourth place Northeastern State (890) and 10 shots in front of sixth place Central Missouri (901). Tech opened the tournament by firing a 297 in Monday’s first round and then carded rounds of 299 and 295. Abilene Christian took home the team title as they shot an 881 for 54 holes, while Central Oklahoma shot an 882 to finish in second place.

Leading the way for Tech was senior Jarred Carlyle (Nashville, Ark.). Carlyle carded a two-over par 218 to finish tied for seventh place. Carlyle opened the tournament by firing a 71 and then shot a 76 in the second round and closed with a one-under par 71 in Tuesday’s final round.

Abilene Christian’s Patrick Hanauer shot a four-under par 212 to take home individual medalist honors. Central Oklahoma’s Colby Shrum and Abilene Christian’s Cyril Bouniol each carded three-under par 213s to finish tied for second.

In addition to Carlyle, senior B.J. Hawkins (Winnsboro, Texas) finished the 54-hole event by shooting a five-over par 221 to finish tied for 10th place. Hawkins opened the tournament with a 76 and then fired a 73 in the second round and an even-par 72 in the final round. Senior Taylor Wallner (Fayetteville, Ark.) shot a 224 (74, 78, 72) for 54 holes to finish in a tie for 16th place, while junior Jonathon Spikes (Danville, Ark.) carded a 233 (76, 77, 80) for 54 holes to finish tied for 40th place and junior Drew Richards (Prescott, Ark.) shot a 234 (80, 73, 81) to finish tied for 46th in his Tech debut.

The Wonder Boys will continue its fall schedule on Sept. 29-30 when they travel to Springfield, Mo., to compete at the Drury Panther Invitational, which will be held at Rivercut Golf Club.
