SEVERAL FUTURE TECH BASKETBALL PLAYERS PERFORM WELL AT THURSDAY'S AHSCA ALL-STAR BASKETBALL GAMES

       FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas Several future Tech basketball players concluded their high school careers in grand fashion on Thursday here at Bud Walton Arena on the campus of the University of Arkansas in the 2009 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Games.

Five future Tech basketball players participated in the annual AHSCA All-Star Game, including four future Golden Suns and one future Wonder Boy.

In the girl’s game, the West Team, which consisted of three future Golden Suns, defeated the East Team, 80-65. In the game, future Golden Sun forward Jessica Weatherford, the Class 6A Player of the Year this past season at Lake Hamilton High School, was named the West Team’s Most Outstanding Player as she scored 11 points and pulled down five rebounds in the team’s 15-point win. In addition to Weatherford, other future Golden Suns on the West Team were guard/forward Amanda Curtis (Vilonia High School) and guard Laura Davidson (Greenwood High School), while guard Phagen Altom (Bald Knob High School) played for the East Team in Thursday’s game. Curtis finished the game with three points, five rebounds, one assist and two steals, while Davidson scored six points in the West Team’s win and Altom scored seven points for the East Team in its loss.

Meanwhile, future Wonder Boy and former Dardanelle High School guard Kendall Pinkney helped the West Team to a 101-88 win over the East Team in the AHSCA Boys All-Star Game. In the game, Pinkney scored six points and dished out five assists in the West Team’s victory.

The AHSCA All-Star Week will conclude on Friday with the 2009 All-Star Football Game at Tiger Stadium in Bentonville, Ark. The All-Star Football Game, which is normally played at Reynolds Razorback Stadium on the Arkansas campus, but has been moved to Bentonville due to ongoing renovation on the playing surface, will feature six future Wonder Boys playing their final high school football game. The future Wonder Boys in action on Friday will be Jordan Akers (Charleston/West Team), Blake Crouse (Siloam Springs/West Team), Quentin Lindsey (Fountain Lake/West Team), Sam Shelby (Paragould/East Team), Nick Smith (Prescott/East Team) and Jared Vinson (Russellville/East Team).
