INCLEMENT WEATHER FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF FIRST DAY OF
GSC SOFTBALL CROSSOVER TOURNAMENT, ALL THURSDAY GAMES
RESCHEDULED FOR MONDAY
DECATUR,
Alabama –
Due to the threat of dangerous weather here on Thursday
afternoon, all the games on the first day of the 2009
Gulf South Conference Crossover Tournament at
Wilson-Morgan Park have been rescheduled for Monday,
April 6.
Arkansas Tech was supposed to open the four-day,
six-game tournament on Thursday against eighth-ranked
Valdosta State at 4 p.m. The game has now been
rescheduled for Monday, April 6 at 9 a.m.
In the past, the Thursday games would’ve been a complete
washout and not rescheduled. However, with a tradition
of bad weather affecting at least one day of the event
each year, GSC Athletic Directors voted in an extra day
this year in an attempt to get as many of the games
played as possible.
With all of Thursday’s games being rescheduled due to
the weather, the Golden Suns will now open the
tournament on Friday, April 3 at 12 p.m. against West
Georgia (16-18, 2-6 GSC), before facing No. 2 ranked
Alabama-Huntsville (28-2, 7-1 GSC) at 4 p.m. On
Saturday, Tech will face 17th-ranked West Florida (30-7,
5-3 GSC), before facing West Alabama (29-7, 3-5 GSC) and
North Alabama (16-17, 2-8 GSC) on Sunday at 10 a.m. and
12 p.m. respectively.
Tech enters the GSC Crossover Tournament having won nine
straight GSC games and is sporting a 28-14 overall
record and an 11-3 mark in the West Division. All of the
games at the GSC Crossover will count as both league
games and South Region contests.
Complete coverage and information on the GSC Crossover
Tournament can be found on either the GSC website (www.gulfsouthconference.org)
or on Alabama-Huntsville’s website (www.uahchargers.com).
UAH is the host school for the crossover tournament.
