MORGAN RODGERS NAMED GSC WEST DIVISION SOFTBALL
PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Alabama –
Arkansas Tech freshman Morgan Rodgers has named
the Gulf South Conference’s West Division Pitcher of the
Week for the second time this season.
It
is the fifth time this season the league as named a Tech
player as the West Division Pitcher of the Week as
junior Casey Hammons (Carthage, Texas) won the
award for three consecutive weeks (March 24, March 31
and April 9) and Rodgers was honored on March 17.
For the week, Rodgers, a native of Mansfield,
Texas, went 2-0 and posted an 0.00 earned run average to
help lead the Golden Suns to its first-ever four-game
sweep this past weekend over West Division rival Delta
State. In 12.2 innings of work, Rodgers allowed eight
hits and one run, which was unearned and threw a
complete game shutout. In addition, she struck out six
and did not walk a batter in her two appearances.
On the season, Rodgers has a 14-10 overall record, has
picked up one save and has a 1.92 ERA. She has made 35
appearances, which is third-most in the school’s
single-season history and in 25 starts, she has thrown
11 complete games and four shutouts. In 153.1 innings
of work, Rodgers has allowed 145 hits and 68 runs (42
earned runs), while walking 38 and striking out 74.
In addition to Rodgers, Arkansas-Monticello freshman
first baseman Kayla Jackson was named the GSC West
Division Player of the Week, while Alabama-Huntsville
junior third baseman Beth Lawson and West Florida junior
pitcher Jillian LaFrance were named the East Division
Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively.
Rodgers and her Golden Sun teammates (35-19 overall,
16-8 GSC) will return to action on Thursday, April 23,
when they conclude its home schedule with a
non-conference doubleheader against Central Baptist. The
doubleheader is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the Chartwells
Women’s Sports Complex and will also mark the final home
game for Tech’s three seniors – centerfielder Krista
Cifuentes (Clinton, Ark.), rightfielder Sarah
Pratt (Garland, Texas) and leftfielder Kacie
Visina (Rowlett, Texas).
