TENNIS RANKED 12TH IN INITIAL NCAA D-II SOUTH REGION
POLL

Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis continued its drive to
earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament in May
by being ranked 12th in the initial NCAA D-II South
Region poll that was released last Wednesday. Tech
hasn’t advanced to the NCAA D-II Tournament since 2002,
when it finished with a 14-11 overall record.
Tech, who is 13-4 on the season and is 8-4 in the South
Region, was one of six Gulf South Conference teams
ranked in the initial South Region poll, including three
West Division teams.
In addition to Tech, Valdosta State (8-2 overall, 5-2
South Region) is ranked second in the first South Region
poll and is followed by West Florida (14-3 overall, 7-2
South Region) at No. 3. Other GSC teams ranked are Delta
State (7-4 overall, 6-1 South Region) at No. 10, Harding
(13-4 overall, 6-2 South Region) at No. 13 and North
Alabama (5-6 overall, 2-4 South Region) at No. 15.
Lynn [FL] (16-0 overall, 12-0 South Region), out of the
Sunshine State Conference, headlines the first South
Region poll. Fellow Sunshine State Conference members
Rollins (14-1 overall, 5-1 South Region), Barry (7-4
overall, 5-1 South Region), Florida Southern (12-4
overall, 8-2 South Region), Nova Southeastern (12-5
overall, 4-2 South Region) and Florida Tech (19-3
overall, 12-3 South Region) are ranked Nos. 4, 5, 6, 7
and 8th respectively. Other ranked teams are Flagler
(10-5 overall, 5-4 South Region) at No. 9, Palm Beach
Atlantic (11-7 overall, 3-5 South Region) at No. 11 and
Tuskegee (10-6 overall, 8-4 South Region) at No. 14.
The Golden Suns will return to action on Tuesday, April
7, when they host Ouachita Baptist in a 2 p.m. GSC match
at the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex.
