TENNIS PICKS UP HOME GSC WIN OVER OUACHITA BAPTIST

        RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas – Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Tennis returned home to the Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex here Tuesday and posted an 8-1 Gulf South Conference victory over Ouachita Baptist.

With the victory, Tech, who is ranked 12th in the latest NCAA Division II South Region Poll, improves to 14-4 overall and 2-2 in the GSC, while OBU falls to 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the GSC.

The Golden Suns, who are seeking to qualify for the GSC Tournament for the second consecutive season, opened Tuesday’s match by picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 8-2 scores. Tech won the No. 3 doubles match by default as OBU only had four players available for the match.

In singles action, Tech won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3, but suffered its only loss of the match at No. 1 singles as OBU’s Tavu Fa picked up a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win over senior Anna Carson (Greenwood, Ark.). Tech won at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 by default.

Tech will return to action GSC action on Thursday, April 9, when they travel to Searcy, Ark., to face Harding (14-5, 1-1 GSC) in a 2 p.m. match. Harding is ranked 13th in the latest NCAA D-II South Region Poll. Tech picked up its first-ever win (5-4) on March 5 in Russellville.
