VOLLEYBALL SNAPS ITS 14-MATCH WINNING STREAK WITH
THREE-SET LOSS AT CHRISTIAN BROTHERS

         MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns Volleyball team saw its 14-match winning streak come to a halt here Thursday evening as they fell in three sets to Christian Brothers (30-28, 25-23, 25-16) in Gulf South Conference action at Canale Arena. The 14-match winning streak was the third longest in school history and Tech’s longest since winning a school-record 26 consecutive matches during the 2000 season.

The loss was Tech’s first of the season in GSC play and just its fourth loss overall on the season as the Golden Suns dropped its record to 29-4 overall and 9-1 in the GSC. In addition, the loss was Tech’s first of the season in three-set matches as Tech entered the match with the Lady Buccaneers sporting a 20-0 record in three-set matches.

Tech was led by senior outside hitter Rachel Urquhart (Chatham, Ont.), who posted a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs, while senior setter Kayla Allison (Tulsa, Okla.) also notched a double-double with 39 assists and 10 digs. In addition to Urquhart and Allison, senior middle blocker Dana Florian (Wilmington, Ill.) had 11 kills and four blocks and freshman libero Brennae Benda (Woodstock, Ill.) collected 19 digs in the loss.

CBU (22-8 overall, 7-4 GSC) finished the match with a .268 hitting percentage, while Tech managed a .174 hitting percentage. The Lady Bucs also held an advantage in blocks, collecting 14 total team blocks to Tech’s six total team blocks.

Aubrey Pancrantz led the way for CBU with 12 kills and five blocks, while Michelle Hein had 10 kills and 13 digs in the victory. Whitney Weyhrich had 39 assists and 12 digs and Jenna Cherry had six kills and eight blocks in the match.

          Tech will return to action next Wednesday, Nov. 5, when they host Arkansas-Monticello in a 7 p.m. match at Tucker Coliseum. Following the UAM match, the Golden Suns will close out the regular season on Thursday, Nov. 6 against Henderson State at 7 p.m. and will mark the final home match for Tech’s four seniors – Allison, Florian, Urquhart and defensive specialist Kirsten Fifield (Wheatfield, Ind.). Tech is 17-0 at home this season and has won a school-record 18 consecutive matches at Tucker Coliseum.
